Hamilton city hall is set to get a face-lift in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. The public works committee approved a multi-coloured “Hamilton” sign to light up in front of city hall.
The sign will be constructed by Hamilton Scenic Speciality and while the cost is being privately funded by unnamed sources, maintenance is still the city’s responsibility.
It will measure just over 2 meters tall, and 20 meters long. The project is estimated to cost from $250 000 to $300 000 for building and installation. The city is also looking at an app that would allow people to change colours of the sign.
But before construction can begin the sign still has to be voted on by city council this Friday, as well as the Heritage Committee sometime later this month.
