Hamilton proposing lower speed limits where Jude Strickland was killed

Hamilton city staff are proposing a new, lower speed limit in the area where Jude Strickland was struck and killed last year.
The recommendations focus on the area of Upper Gage Ave. and Royal Vista Dr. and are expected to be discussed by the public works committee on Friday.
They include lowering the speed limit on Upper Gage Ave. from 50 km/hr to 40 km/hr between Rymal Rd. E and Stone Church Rd. E and making the area a community safety zone where certain Highway Traffic Act fines, including speeding, are doubled.
Staff are also proposing reducing the speed limit on and on Royal Vista Dr. and Templemead Dr. from 40 km/hr to 30 km/hr.
