Hamilton police seek teen suspect wanted in downtown shooting

A shooting in Hamilton’s downtown core Wednesday afternoon has led to three arrests and the search for a fourth person suspected to be the shooter.

Police say the incident took place shortly before 5 p.m. near Jackson and Walnut streets.

Investigators discovered two groups of three male suspects had a “verbal altercation” before getting violent.

No one was injured.

Witnesses told police upon their arrival that following the shooting, three suspects were seen fleeing into a nearby apartment building at 115 Main St. East.

Officers contained the apartment and arrested three male suspects and brought them to the station for interviews without incident.

Police say they recovered a firearm but can’t confirm if the weapon was used in the shooting.

The three suspects were released after being interviewed pending further investigation by police.

Detectives are now looking for a teen believed to be the shooter. He is described as a white boy between 15 and 17 years old with a thin build and long wavy brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a beige sweatshirt with either beige shorts or rolled-up pants, a black satchel, black socks and white shoes.

Hamilton police say this incident marks the city’s 34th shooting so far this year.

Residents and businesses in the area are asked to review their surveillance video between 4:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Wednesday for any suspicious activity.
