Hamilton police officer expected in court today after violent arrest of Indigenous man

A Hamilton police officer is expected in court today following the violent arrest of an Indigenous man that was caught on camera.
The video was taken by a witness at a gas station in Hamilton. It shows several plain-clothes police officer arresting Patrick Tomchuk.
Constable Brian Wren was suspended from Hamilton Police Service shortly after the incident and has since been charged with assault.
The Police services’ board has asked for a review of all policies related to prisoner handling and use of force to ensure they are current and reflective of best practices.
