Hamilton police officer back on duty after being dragged by driver fleeing arrest

A vehicle has struck and injured a Hamilton police officer as they were attempting to make an arrest on the Red Hill Valley Parkway Wednesday morning.
Police say an officer was responding to a collision on the parkway near Greenhill Ave. around 11:45 a.m. when they noticed another nearby vehicle trying to dodge traffic.
Investigators say the erratic driver rolled up his window, trapping the police officer’s arms and dragging him along the parkway, as he tried to avoid the arrest.
The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

A 29-year-old man was arrested a short time later. He is facing four charges, including fleeing from police and assaulting a police officer.
The southbound lanes of the Red Hill Valley Parkway were closed at Greenhill Ave. for an investigation, but they have since reopened.
Police say the officer involved in the incident is back on duty.
