Hamilton police investigating after break-in leads to stabbing

Hamilton police are asking for the public’s help as the continue to investigate after charges were laid in an early morning break-in that led to a stabbing Saturday.

Officers were called to the area of Sherman Avenue North and Case Street for reports of a break-in that was in progress and an altercation between multiple people.

Police say when they arrived they found a female victim with stab wounds to the abdomen who they say remains in non-life threatening condition.

As a result of early investigations, detectives have arrested a 40-year-old man who now faces four charges, including possession of incendiary material and uttering threats of bodily harm or death.

Details surrounding the identity of the accused cannot be released at this time as investigators say the information has yet to be sworn into the courts.

Police believe this was a targeted incident and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Investigators additionally ask that residents, businesses and vehicles with cameras in the area review their security surveillance cameras between 4:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. for any suspicious activity.
