Hamilton Police investigating 3 swatting incidents reported in 3 days

Hamilton police are investigating following three swatting incidents over a three day period where reports of a serious crime sent officers to a targeted location.

The first call came in just before 10 p.m. on Monday, when the Hamilton Police non-emergency line received a report of a shooting in progress at a home on Rendell Blvd. The caller claimed a father had shot his wife and daughter while his son was hiding inside a room in the home.

Police responded and immediately established a perimeter around the reported scene while paramedics set up a treatment location.

Officers were able to contact the residents of the home and did not find any evidence of a shooting nor any victims. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the voice on the call was computer-generated.

The second call came shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday when police received a report of a bomb threat that was made to Hamilton Health Sciences. The suspect did not provide details on a specific hospital targeted, however police did not locate any explosive devices.

Investigators have now confirmed the call came from a Text Now number and the investigation is ongoing.

A third call came Wednesday around 12:30 a.m. from a male reporting that his mother and father had been arguing when he heard four gunshots and then saw his mother laying on the living room floor. The caller said his father had fled the scene.

Officers responded to the home on Purnell Dr. and confirmed another swatting call with no evidence of a shooting or any victims.

Hamilton police have not confirmed whether these calls are related and continue to investigate them as separate incidents at this time.
