Hamilton police investigates after 40th reported shooting of year

Police are investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning on East Avenue North, marking the city’s 40th shooting this year.

Officers responded to calls of gunfire at a 25 East Ave. North parking lot at around 3:40 a.m. where they initially did not find evidence of a shooting.

Detectives say after reviewing video that a shooting did take place involving multiple people and vehicles.

Officers are looking for a man involved in the shooting who was seen firing a handgun into the air while walking through the parking lot.

The man is described as wearing light-coloured pants and a baseball hat, while carrying a backpack and pushing a bicycle.

Police confirm this is the 40th reported shooting of the year.

In a statement released this afternoon, Hamilton Police say there was only 35 shootings in 2023.

Anyone who was in the area of East Avenue North, King Street East or King William Street with information or video of the incident are asked to call police.
