Firefighters explained the importance of testing and maintaining smoke alarms in your home.

Executive Director of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, Jamie Kovacs says there were 133 fire-related fatalities in Ontario last year, which is the most in 20 years.

“We all need to look after each other. As a firefighter myself, we aren’t saving lives, it’s the smoke alarms that are going to save your life,” Kovacs said.

Home safety brand and manufacturer of smoke alarms, Kidde Canada is partnering with the safety council to donate more than 1,000 smoke alarms to Ontario fire departments, including Hamilton.
