Hamilton Centre byelection debate

Candidates in Hamilton’s provincial byelection faced off tonight as they try to convince voters to support them.

The Hamilton Centre riding is Andrea Horwath’s old seat. Horwath won the seat in last year’s provincial election but it became empty when she was elected mayor of Hamilton.

There are ten candidates in the running in this byelection, including four main contenders. The high-profile candidates are social activist Sara Jama for the NDP, Hamilton Spectator columnist and social activist Deirdre Pike running for the Liberals, police officer Pete Wiesner running for the Conservatives, and environmentalist Lucia Iannantuono for the Greens.

Three out of the four candidates who were invited were there. Conservative candidate Pete Wiesner did not take part.

Al Sweeney has the details of the debate held at Cable 14.
