Hamilton celebrates 125 years of power in the ‘Electric City’

The Tesla Electric City Festival lit up Hamilton this weekend to celebrate the 125th anniversary of power in the City.

The event told the history of electricity in Hamilton and gave attendees to interact with live science demonstrations all while commemorating the technological achievements of Nikola Tesla.

Hamilton became known as the “Electric City” after becoming the very first Canadian city to embrace electric power 125 years ago.

This was the sixth time the festival was held at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology since the city began recognizing the importance of electric power history back in 2016.

The City of Hamilton became known as the Electric City in 1898 after becoming the first major city in Canada to embrace hydroelectricity and sparking the second industrial revolution in Hamilton.
