Hamilton bus drivers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate.

The Amalgamated Transit Union announced the results of the strike vote overnight, saying 99 per cent of workers voted in favour.

This means drivers could walk off the job next month if the union and city are unable to reach a deal.

Labour negotiations have been going on for three weeks, with no agreement.

The union that represents almost 900 HSR workers is asking for a seven per cent pay raise.

City of Hamilton won’t comment while negotiations are going on, but says it’s committed to reaching a fair deal.
