Hamilton boy faces more charges after armed carjacking in Burlington

First Published:

A 15-year-old boy charged in connection with an armed carjacking in Hamilton is facing additional charges following a similar incident in Burlington.

Halton police say the victim was parking an SUV at the Appleby Ice Centre in Burlington around 3 p.m. Sunday when three males got out of a pickup truck, pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded the keys.

The suspects fled the scene in the stolen SUV and the pickup truck.

Halton police then found the suspects in a white Mercedes near the abandoned SUV in Hamilton.

When officers attempted to arrest them, the suspects struck the police cruiser and fled the scene in the Mercedes.

Around 6:30 p.m., Hamilton police say a Lincoln Navigator was travelling near Garth Street and Twenty Road when the damaged Mercedes unexpectedly blocked its path.

Officers say the suspects got out of the Mercedes, assaulted the occupants of the Lincoln Navigator, forcefully removed them from the vehicle and then stole it to flee the scene.

All occupants of the stolen vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The stolen Lincoln Navigator was found abandoned shortly after the incident. The Mercedes left behind at the scene was reported as stolen from the Hamilton area.

Police say a firearm was recovered.

Hamilton police arrested a 15-year-old boy from the city on Sunday. He has been charged as a youth with three separate offences, including five counts of robbery with a firearm.

On Thursday, Halton police laid additional charges against the same Hamilton boy in connection with the armed carjacking in Burlington. He is facing three more charges, including robbery with a firearm.

Hamilton police say three people are still wanted in this case.
