The City of Hamilton has added thousands of COVID-19 vaccine appointments, along with a pop-up clinic this weekend.

The city says it received more vaccine supply Wednesday afternoon, allowing them to open up more than 21,000 vaccine appointments at the city’s vaccination clinics.

The city will also be running a pop-up vaccination clinic at the West End Urgent Care Centre on Main St. over the long weekend.

That clinic will administer the Moderna vaccine.

The new appointments and pop-up clinic are by appointment only.

Vaccine booking opened up to Ontario residents 18 and older on Tuesday. But several local health units, including Hamilton, did not have enough appointments to meet demand.

The city says it has administered nearly 257,000 vaccine doses. It says 50.2 per cent of residents over the age of 18 have received a vaccine.

The goal is to have 75 per cent of Hamilton residents vaccinated on or before June 21.
