Halton police launch annual commercial vehicle inspection blitz

Halton police have launched their annual commercial motor vehicle inspection and enforcement blitz set to run on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
This marks 22 years of the two-day safety initiative that has grown to be one of the largest of its kind in Ontario.
Enforcement officers will be deployed across the Halton region, including the 400-series highways looking for vehicles that appear to “be deficient in mechanical fitness or display a safety or load concern.

These flagged vehicles will be subjected to a traffic stop and escorted to an inspection site located at Woodbine Mohawk Park in Milton under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act.
Halton police say that this initiative is an integral part of the region’s traffic enforcement strategy where any vehicles found to be unsafe will be taken off of the roads.
Last year, officers completed 316 inspections with 95 trucks being taken off of the streets. This resulted in 208 charges being laid and 8 sets of plates being removed from unsafe vehicles.
