Halton police charge 2 men after movie theatre screen slashings

Two Toronto-area men have been arrested after screens at several movie theatres were slashed.

Halton police said two screens were slit on Nov. 16, 2021 at the Cineplex SilverCity Cinemas on Winston Park Dr. in Oakville.

Later that day, similar damage was done at the Cineplex SilverCity in Richmond Hill.

Then on Feb. 23, two men cut screens at the Film.ca on Speers Rd. in Oakville. The men also slashed screens at Cine Starz on Brant St. in Burlington and the Princess Cinemas in Waterloo.

Officers said the incidents resulted in approximately $100,000 in damage.

Dean Priestly, 30, of Toronto was arrested and charged with two counts of mischief over $5,000.

Mohammed Yousafzai, 38, of Pickering was arrested and charged with five counts of mischief over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
