Guns, drugs seized following police investigation in Halton Region

Two people are facing nearly 30 charges following a drug trafficking investigation in the Halton Region.

On Thursday, two people were arrested following a summer-long operation that concluded with several search warrants.

Police say they carried out a raid on a Mississauga residence and a car associated with the arrestees, where they located several guns and a copious amount of drugs and paraphernalia, including:

  • 1 kilogram of cocaine;
  • 1 ounce of crystal methamphetamine;
  • 112 oxycodone pills; and
  • Other indicia including scales packaging and bundled currency.

The two firearms recovered were a Glock 9mm in a prohibited compact variation and a Bersa 9mm that was loaded with hollow-point ammunition.

Michael Akuffo, a 31-year-old from Mississauga and Tre Wynters, a 31-year-old from Brampton, are facing multiple drug and firearm-related charges, some of which include:

  • Possession of a loaded firearm;
  • Trafficking a controlled substance;
  • Careless storage of a firearm; and
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both men were scheduled to undergo a bail hearing on Thursday, the result of which has not been publicized.
