Group launches first 30-day walking challenge in Hamilton

First Published:

Hamilton’s first-ever 30-day walking challenge kicked off on Monday.

The event, put together by SportHamilton, challenges participants to stay active by walking for 30 minutes every day in April.

It’s the first year the group has put on an event like this.

“We’ve seen it done successfully in some other municipalities, and we wanted to bring it to Hamilton,” said Ed Valtenbergs, the organization’s vice president.

“One of our main goals is to enhance and encourage people all across the city in the Hamilton community to be active for life,” said Helen Downey, SportHamilton president.

“What we want people to do is walk for 30 continuous minutes, for 30 consecutive days. That’s our goal for April.”

On top of promoting a healthy lifestyle, the event is giving away daily prizes to those who log their activity.

Some of the prizes include free massages, tickets to CFL games and karaoke machines.

Those interested in signing up can still do so by clicking here.
