Grey Cup trophy makes its grand entrance into Hamilton

First Published:

The Canadian Football League’s Grey Cup trophy has landed in Hamilton, marking the official kick-off to city-wide celebrations throughout the week.

The trophy made its way to His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Star Naval Reserve Division at Pier 8 around 12 p.m. Monday on HMCS Harry DeWolf.

The official Grey Cup arrival ceremony will soon follow on board the ship.

The trophy was donated by former Governor General of Canada Albert Grey in 1909 and was originally gifted to the top amateur rugby football team in the country before becoming the star of the football league.

Grey Cup festivities are set to take over Hamilton’s downtown core throughout the week in the lead up to the 110th match against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Montreal Alouettes.

The now sold-out game will kick-off at 6 p.m. on Sunday to wrap a week of music, food, family fun as football dominates the city.

More details on the more than 40 events being held can be found here.
