GoFundMe set up for Hamilton teen found dead in Lake Ontario

A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for the memorial service of a 14-year-old Hamilton boy who was found dead in Lake Ontario on Wednesday.

The GoFundMe page has identified the boy as Malcolm Belgrave. He is being remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by many.

Hamilton police say Belgrave disappeared on Saturday afternoon while he was with friends on an inflatable in the water along Beach Blvd.

Police searched for the boy while an emergency helicopter patrolled the area and scanned the water below.

Many organizations were also involved in the search, including the Hamilton Fire Department, the Hamilton Paramedic Service and Ontario Provincial Police.

As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe for Belgrave’s memorial service received 290 donations, raising nearly $24,000 since it was created on Thursday.

Hamilton police would like to thank all involved in assisting in the search for Belgrave. They are also requesting privacy for those affected by this tragedy.
