Fourth ‘unidentified object’ shot down over Lake Huron

The US military has shot down a fourth high-altitude object, this time over Lake Huron.
The Pentagon says President Joe Biden gave the order to shoot down the “unidentified object”.
US officials say the craft was flying at 20,000 feet near Michigan’s upper peninsula when fighter jets took it down, identifying it as a flight hazard, not a military threat.
Recovery efforts are underway to find the octagon-shaped object and analyze all of its components.

The downing yesterday was the fourth such event in eight days, raising questions about the repeated takedowns.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared briefly at the airport yesterday before boarding a plane for the Yukon where he’ll meet with local government and indigenous leaders to discuss another balloon shot down Saturday.
The object was downed approximately 160 kilometres from the Canada-US border, over central Yukon.
It was flying at approximately 40,000 feet and was ordered down after it violated Canadian airspace.

The head of NORAD and US Northern Command, General Glen VanHerck, says part of the reason for the shootdowns is a “heightened alert” following a spy balloon from China that appeared over the US at the end of January.
The undercarriage of the first balloon, which contains the surveillance equipment, was located mostly intact on Friday.
Canada’s Defence Minister Anita Anand says “it’s far too early” to say whether an “unidentified object” shot down over Yukon came from China.
