Fort Erie man ‘stumbles’ into vehicle, collides with police cruiser

First Published:

A 53-year-old from Fort Erie is facing charges after he crashed his car into a police cruiser before driving off the road and crashing into a ditch.

No one was injured.

Police say they received a call around 9 p.m. on Wednesday about an impaired driver who had “stumbled” into his car.

Witnesses who saw the man go by say his car had a flat tire and a dragging, broken tailpipe near Dominion Road and Gorham Road.

Officers managed to track him down to an area near Bernard Avenue and boxed him in.

The man did not pull over, and instead collided with the rear-end of the officer in front of him before he “veered off the roadway and into a ditch.”

Police say they arrested and charged Duncan Simpson of Fort Erie with two counts of impaired driving.

Additionally, he was charged with six provincial offences and has been suspended from driving for 90 days due to administrative driver’s license violations.

At this time, Simpson has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Police say anyone with additional information on this incident can call them at 905-688-4111, option three, extension 1022300.
