Forge FC faces off against Toronto FC for first leg of semi-final

First Published:

Forge FC is set to face off against Toronto FC on Wednesday in the first leg of the Canadian Championship semi-final.

Many people see tonight’s matchup as a clash of David versus Goliath, following the last time these two faced off for the Canadian Championship in 2020.

It was then, Forge FC lost 5-4 in penalty kicks against the rival team. It was the Hammer’s best tournament finish in their history, and marked the first time ever the Major League Soccer played a game at Tim Horton’s field.

Toronto FC are the most successful team in the Voyageurs Cup, having claimed eight titles.

However, they’ve struggled in their league plays, winless in their last nine matches.

Forge FC has seen better days too, with only one win in their last five games in the Canadian Premier League.

Tonight, Toronto FC enters the game a few players shy, out with injuries. Still, the team has a few Italian stars on their roster, from Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernadeschi.
