No one injured in tent fire at Hamilton’s Gage Park

First Published:

No one was injured in a tent fire at Hamilton’s Gage Park Tuesday morning.

The Hamilton Fire Department was called to the east-end park shortly after 8 a.m. for a report of a structure fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Shawn De Jager says crews arrived to find a tent engulfed in flames and surrounded by trees.

The tent was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Officials did not specify whether the tent was a part of an encampment.

De Jager says firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

Hamilton police briefly closed all eastbound lanes of Main Street East at Gage Avenue South. The area reopened around 9 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
