A break-in occurred at a well-known downtown Hamilton yoga studio resulting in the theft of laptops and office equipment; however, the “Find My Device” feature, led the police directly to the culprit.

The door was smashed in, and inside, stolen computers and electronics were scattered around. Equipment and decorations were also tossed everywhere.

Katie McClelland, the owner of De La Sol Yoga Studios found extensive damage to her downtown Hamilton studio early Friday morning.

“Anything of value was taken, including the thermostats, but every room was vandalized and completely desecrated which was a horrible feeling to walk into,” said McClelland.

McClelland gave CHCH News the video she took of police arresting a man at a nearby Tim Horton’s.

She said police found her items quickly after the “Find My Device” notification popped up on her tablet.

It pinged the location of her laptop and she says officers caught him there with her stolen belongings.

“One of my iPads gave a geographical location as to where all the stuff was located so we drove down there to the Tim Horton’s, and it was a really distressing scene,” she said.

Hamilton police were not able to give CHCH News a comment today.

Despite the fact that she has had her studio broken into several times over the years, McClelland says she does not want to relocate after investing so much time and effort over the past 17 years.

“The studio keeps getting targeted, and we’re here trying to spread wellness and foster a sense of community and peace and wellness with folks,” McClelland said.

She says she has about $10,000 worth of damage but has made sure the studio is back up and running on a normal schedule.
