The Fault in Our Stars is a romantic drama directed by Josh Boone (Stuck in Love). Based on the bestselling novel by John Green, the film stars Shailene Woodley (Divergent) as Hazel, a cancer stricken 16-year old girl longing for a normal life away from her oxygen tank and support groups. But it’s one of these meetings that brings her and her charismatic crush, Gus (Ansel Elgort, Divergent), together. The two quickly fall in love, confiding in each other their hopes and fears. When Gus arranges for Hazel to meet her favourite author, the two fly to Amsterdam on a life-changing adventure. The film co-stars Laura Dern and Willem Dafoe.

It didn’t take long for the movie rights to John Green’s novel to get picked up by a studio; the book was only published in January 2012. But Green was initially reluctant to see his work on the big screen saying, “I felt the story was so personal and close to me I just couldn’t imagine it being turned into a movie.” One person who really wanted the book turned into a movie was its star. “I wanted the role so badly I sent John Green a long, long email about how much I loved the book, and how I had to play Hazel,” Woodley explains. “So I sat down with the studio executives and producers and said, ‘I’ll be a P.A. or an extra, just please, please let me be a part of it!’”

The Fault in Our Stars is rated PG.
