Fatal collision leads to complete closure of Highway 6 in both directions

A fatal collision Wednesday morning on Highway 6 between Concession Rd. 11 and Concession Rd. 12 has closed the roadway in both directions.

OPP say that two vehicles were involved in a collision around 8:20 a.m. when a north-bound passenger vehicle moved into the south-bound lanes hitting a delivery truck head-on.

The Hamilton Fire Department has reported that an individual was trapped in a vehicle at the scene, but neither police nor the fire department have confirmed which vehicle or driver this was at this time.

Police say the lone driver of the passenger vehicle, a 57-year-old man from Hamilton, was pronounced dead at scene.

The driver of the delivery truck sustained minor injuries and remains on scene.

The road closure is expected to last several hours and drivers are asked to avoid the area at this time.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing and no charges have been laid at this time.

The OPP is speaking to witnesses on scene and is asking for any additional witnesses to contact the Burlington OPP at at 905-681-2511.
