Fake cop wanted in sex assault

First Published:

Hamilton police are hunting for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman and identifying himself as a member of “Hamilton-Wentworth police.”

Investigators say he approached a woman early Wednesday and told her she was under arrest.  He told her to go behind a building for a ‘search’.  That’s when the woman was sexually assaulted.
The suspect is in his late 30’s, with a shaved head, shorts and sandals.  He was wearing a t-shirt with a portugal emblem on the front.
Police say if you’re ever approached by a plain clothes officer, they will show a “warrant card” that has a photograph, and a badge with the name of the police service.  If you’re still unsure, call 911.

Anyone with information is urged to call police or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers.
