DOPE is a comedy-drama written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Our Family Wedding). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, coming away with the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Excellence in Editing. The cast features Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Kimberly Elise, Chanel Iman, Tyga, Blake Anderson, Zoë Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, and narration by Forest Whitaker.

A critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, in DOPE, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

On June 15, Open Road Films announced that, for the first time ever, audiences will be able to buy tickets to DOPE online using BitCoins, the popular digital currency. The studio is partnering with movietickets.com to provide the new service. “DOPE is fresh, innovative and cutting edge. This partnership reflects all of those qualities of the movie,” Open Road Film’s Chief Marketing Officer Jason Cassidy says in the press release announcing the initiative. “Bitcoin is an integral part of DOPE and we could not be more excited to bring this unique new opportunity to moviegoers.”

DOPE is rated 14A. Read our review here.
