First Published:

Devante Skye-Davis has been sentenced to five years in prison for the death of 17-year-old Myah Larmond at a house party in Hamilton in 2020.

On July 16, 2020, police were called to a home on St. Matthews Avenue after receiving calls for a shooting.

According to reports, a loaded gun was being “passed around like a toy” when it went off, and a bullet struck Larmond in the head.

She was transported to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Larmond’s boyfriend, Skye-Davis, was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The court is counting Skye-Davis’ 37 months already in jail as time served towards his sentence, and he will remain in prison for another 23 months.

His sentencing comes just months after another person involved in the crime, Cadence Beauparlant, was handed a seven-year jail stint for the same incident.

Beauparlant was the person who brought the loaded gun to the house party in Hamilton that night. He fled the scene with the weapon.

He was arrested a year later and pleaded guilty to unauthorized possession of a loaded firearm.
