Deliver Us From Evil

Deliver Us From Evil is a supernatural thriller from director Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still). It stars Eric Bana as NYPD Sergeant Ralph Sarchie who plies his trade in one of the roughest neighbourhoods in the city. Sarchie’s seen some strange things in his time on the force, but when a particular case shows signs of an otherworldly influence, he joins forces with Joe Mendoza, a priest with experience in the supernatural. The two must work to unearth the evil forces preying on the city and endangering its citizens, including Ralph’s wife and daughter. The film co-stars Édgar Ramírez, Olivia Munn, Sean Harris, and Joel McHale.

The script was adapted from a book called Beware the Night by real-life Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool. Sarchie submitted a six-page proposal to Jerry Bruckheimer Films that caught the attention of executive producer Chad Oman. “I took it home and read it one night at about midnight after my wife and kids went to sleep. I got about three or four pages into it, and had to stop. I went into the room where my wife was to finish reading the proposal, because it was that frightening.”
