Death of man found unconscious in Hamilton home deemed a homicide: police

First Published:

Hamilton police say the death of a 46-year-old man who was found unconscious in a home in the city’s downtown core over the weekend has been deemed a homicide.

Emergency crews were called around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to 36 Queen St. South for a report of a medical incident.

Officers say David Fugler was found unconscious in his room and was taken to hospital, where he died early the next morning.

The results of an autopsy conducted Monday led police to determine that his death was a homicide.

“David’s family has been informed of the investigation and has requested privacy during this difficult time. David was a beloved son, brother, and friend,” reads a police statement released Tuesday.

Investigators have confirmed that firearms were not involved in his death and Fugler was not previously known to police.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Homicide detectives are currently securing the scene at 36 Queen St. South and are expected to remain there over the next couple of days to speak with witnesses and collect surveillance video.

Anyone with further information regarding this homicide investigation is asked to contact Det. Const. Kim Tait at 905-546-4863.
