Ontario Provincial Police in Burlington are searching for a man who was caught on camera hitching a ride on the back of a transport truck early Wednesday morning.

Video posted by the OPP shows the man standing on the truck’s rear impact guard as the vehicle drove on the westbound lanes of the QEW near Burloak Dr. around midnight.

“Certainly a very dangerous behaviour. Something that we don’t ever want to see. Certainly could cause serious injuries or even deaths if there was a collision or if he fell from the trailer,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video on Twitter.

A witness of the incident alerted the driver of the transport truck, who then pulled over on the shoulder of the highway.

Schmidt said the man then jumped off the truck and ran toward the Burloak Dr. off-ramp.

Burlington OPP were unable to find the man when they searched the area. The man was wearing a black jacket and grey pants.

Police said the truck driver stopped in Milton for a load about 30 minutes earlier, but does not know how or when the man got onto the back of the truck.

Police continue to investigate this incident and are asking anyone with information to contact Burlington OPP.
