Member of Parliament Pam Damoff announced Tuesday that the Crosstown Trail in Oakville will be receiving a $1 million dollar upgrade thanks to an investment from the federal government.

The trail stretches 12 kilometres from Upper Middle Rd. and Dundas St., from Bronte Creek Provincial Park to Ninth Line. Domoff says it will be widened and paved along the four kilometre stretch from Khalsa Gate to Sixteen Mile Creek.

Pedestrian crossings are set to be installed at all road crossings to improve safety for trail walkers and new signage will be installed to help with users finding their way along the trail.

The investment will also bring amenities such as rest areas with accessible benches and bike racks.

The hope for the upgrade is to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity within the Oakville community through offering safe paths to walk or bike to destinations.
