Councillors to vote on bringing Hamilton Bulldogs to Brantford

First Published:

Brantford city council will vote Tuesday night on whether to bring the Hamilton Bulldogs to the Telephone City for at least three seasons due to renovations in the FirstOntario Centre.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. and councillors will consider the proposals to accept the OHL team and upgrade the 56-year-old Brantford Civic Centre arena.

The commitment includes upgrades to the concessions, bathrooms, change rooms and the jumbotron.

The agreement would see the junior team relocate and rebrand as the Brantford Bulldogs.

In a media release, an estimated $10 million in upgrades to the Brantford Civic Centre will be executed and paid for to meet fan, player and OHL standards.

The three-year term move also includes an additional three one-year renewal clause.

The OHL is considered to be one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues, and is a supplier of talent to the National Hockey League.
