The City of Hamilton is facing a fine of $50,000 following several complaints of a foul-smelling odour from the Central Composting Facility (CCF) on Burlington St. East.
This comes after the city was charged $2.1 million on Thursday for a sewage spill in Chedoke Creek.
CCF composts up to 90,000 tonnes of organic waste and amendment material every year using an aerobic tunnel system.
The province began investigating the bad smell from CCF in 2018 and found that the bio filter was operating at a 60 per cent efficiency.
