City of Burlington introduces new parking fees on Saturdays

First Published:

The City of Burlington is introducing parking fees on Saturdays for all on-street metered parking spaces, as well as for some high demand parking lots.

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward says downtown businesses have expressed concerns over customers not having anywhere to park because vehicles are staying put for multiple hours.

The parking fee changes are an attempt to address this issue, with new money collected going towards infrastructure repair, maintenance, beautification and expansion of parking supply in the downtown.

“The Council-approved changes to parking in our downtown are meant to help ensure a larger number of residents, visitors and shoppers are able to access the wonderful offerings of our beloved shops and restaurants whenever they drop by,” Ward said.

The change takes effect on April 2 and will require users to pay if they are parking in on-street metered parking spaces on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The following three municipal parking lots are also instating fees:

  • Lot 1 – Pearl Street Lot, 431 Elizabeth St.
  • Lot 4 – Elizabeth Street Lot, 421 John St.
  • Lot 5 – Brant Street Lot, 391 Brant St.

The City of Burlington is also increasing the cost of all downtown metered on-street parking spaces by $0.25 per hour.

The hourly rate increases from $1.75 to $2 per hour, the daily maximum parking fee increases from $14 to $18, and the monthly permits increase from $83 to $91 and from $132 to $151.

The City reminds drivers that parking is still free for all users with a valid accessible parking permit or City-issued Veteran Parking Permit.
