Child in critical condition after central Mountain house fire

A home at 46 Garden Crescent on Hamilton’s central Mountain caught fire tonight with 13 people reportedly inside.

According to the Hamilton Fire Department, first arriving crews reported heavy smoke coming from the garage area and front door of the two story split level single family home.
Those who had gotten out told firefighters there was still one child left inside.
According to Chief Dave Cunliffe, firefighters immediately entered the home and encountered heavy smoke and extreme heat conditions. A crew also entered the rear of the home and located the child, who was without vital signs, according to a CHCH freelance reporter.
Firefighters revived the child, a two-year-old boy*, who was then transported to hospital along with the 12 others who were in the home when the fire broke out. At this time, the current condition of each member of the group is unknown
Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control but not before the house sustained significant damage, said the HFD release. Damage is estimated to be approximately $450,000 to $500,000. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and are responding to assist with the investigation. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital.
