Young woman dies and 10-year-old boy rescued after being pulled from Lake Ontario in Oakville

Emergency crews found a boy and a young woman in distress in Lake Ontario this morning.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a call from Coronation Park in Oakville about two people in distress out in the water.
The young woman was found near the shore and despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead in hospital. A 10-year-old boy was saved without injury after being pulled from the waters.
The young boy and woman are not related but were at the park together.
It is believed the pair had been swimming in the lake, but that’s still under investigation.
Constable Ryan Anderson says, “there’s no evidence there was a boat out there so we don’t think they fell off a boat, we think they entered from the shore.”
The Marine Unit was seen scouring Lake Ontario hours after the woman was taken to hospital.
Anderson added that they have no reason to believe anyone else was hurt.
Halton police tell CHCH News, out of respect for the families involved, that they are not providing any more details regarding the victims at this time.
