On this day after the provincial election there is plenty of news to get to. Mostly surrounding Kathleen Wynne’s surprising “majority” win in the election. And despite the fact that the election’s over — this has been a busy day for Ontario’s first female — and openly gay elected premier.

Returning July second, throne speech and re-introducing her budget — which she can now pass because of her majority government.

It was a triumphant Kathleen Wynne back at Queen’s Park the morning after the election. She met with her cheering supporters, then the Lieutenant-Governor and then with the media. She said she knows it will be hard to get the province back to a balanced budget.

Wynne: “I’m waiting for the easy day in political life. This might be the closest to it.”

The Liberals took eleven extra seats after Ontarians went to the polls, including a huge upset in Burlington, where Eleanor McMahon was the first Liberal elected in 71 years.

Eleanor said: “That’s an extraordinary amount of time. People last night told me thank you. We’ve lived here 50 years and we’ve been waiting for this day.”

The Liberals may not have had an MPP in Burlington since 1943, but the last 3 elections here were tight races and Kathleen Wynne visited here twice during her campaign.

“I think it is about more young families, worried about education, among my age group anyways.”

“We’re thrilled Hudak didn’t get in.”

“It’s not the way I wanted it to go, but it is what it is.”

The Premier is taking the weekend off but it’s not the same for new Liberal MPP’s like Eleanor McMahon. They have been asked to show up at Queen’s Park Saturday morning for their first meeting.
