Wrong-way driver on QEW near Hamilton crashes, abandons vehicle

A driver who was going the wrong way on the QEW near Hamilton crashed into another car and then abandoned their vehicle, police say.

Provincial police temporarily shut down the Toronto-bound lane of the Red Hill Valley Parkway ramp that connects to the QEW around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday following the crash.

Hamilton paramedics say a 64-year-old man was taken to a trauma centre, and is in stable condition.

Witnesses say that the occupants of the wrong-way vehicle, which had been Niagara-bound in the Toronto-bound lane, fled the scene after the crash.

No one has been arrested at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
