Work to Rule Campaign being implemented Monday

Things are going to be a little bit different in public elementary schools come monday. That’s when 76 000 public elementary teachers will begin a work to rule campaign.
EFTO President, Sam Hammond weighed in on the issue at hand.
“Public elementary teachers and occasional teachers across Ontario will begin phase one of a work to rule strike action this coming Monday.”
What that “strike action” means is that teachers will not take part in standardized testing, provide report card comments or take part in any professional development or work related initiatives.
Hammond says his union had no choice but to take strike action, because of what he calls the “offensive demands” by the liberal government and local school boards .
“We will not allow school boards to increase class sizes at the expense of students and teachers we will not allow others to dictate how teachers and occasional teachers spend their preparation time.”
Late this afternoon Education Minister Liz Sandals held a news conference, urging the union to get back to the bargaining table.
She said she is disappointed the union has chosen to implement a work to rule campaign. She also said at no time has her government raised the issue of class sizes.
“If Mr. Hammond accused us that we were discussing class size it is not an issue that has been raised at the central table.”
“What we want to happen is for OFSBA and this government to get serious at the table, get those offensive off of the table.” flash edit
“But we will under the laws if we need to escalate this strike action we are prepared to do that in a timely way.”
