Work-from-home tax deduction could cost feds $260 million

Canada’s parliamentary budget officer says the number of people claiming a deduction for home office expenses is likely to skyrocket this year.

Yves Giroux estimates the federal government could lose out on $260 million in lost tax revenue.

Canadians are eligible to deduct up to $400, depending on how many days they worked from home last year.

The Liberals decided to simplify the tax measure because so many people have been working from home since last spring.
