The Canadian Women’s soccer team is on the pitch Saturday night taking on Ecuador, which may prove to be a tough match. The Ecuadorian team is the same team that just took part in the Women’s World Cup, but for Canada, it’s a different story. High-profile players like Christine Sinclair, Melissa Tancredi and goalie Erin McLeon are not part of the Pan Am team.

Instead, there will be players such as 21 year old Oakville native Kinley McNicholl and 17 year old Jessie Flemming. Flemming did play at the World Cup and is still recovering from the quarter final loss.

Coach John Herdman and his World Cup Assistant Coach, Danny Worthington, have swapped roles for the Pan Am games. Ashley Lawrence, who scored Canada’s only goal against the Netherlands in the World Cup, will be playing for Canada at the Pan Am games. It may not have the big names, but this team Canada is full of young talent getting ready for the Olympics in 2016.
