Two women are in custody after a Sunwing flight bound for Cuba was escorted back to Pearson International Airport by NORAD fighter jets Wednesday night.

The airline says the pilot made the decision to return to Toronto after the flight was disrupted by  “two unruly female passengers.” Sunwing vice-president Janine Chapman says the passengers had consumed a significant quantity of alcohol in the washroom. She says they then lit a cigarette, triggering the smoke alarm, got into a physical fight with each other and made a threat against the aircraft.  The unidentified women were taken into custody by Peel police, and the plane left Pearson again at 11 pm.
