Woman stabbed in Hamilton

A woman was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in an attack just inside her own home.

It happened in the Wellington and Barton neighbourhood just after seven o’clock and police are still looking for the attackers.

The 47-year old woman was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital after being stabbed at least twice. A friend told CHCH News tonight that he saw three people leaving — and blood on the floor. The woman’s boyfriend was trying to stop the bleeding while waiting for paramedics to arrive. She was still conscious when she was taken to hospital. Martin Cox says a woman and two men are responsible for the attack — adding he’d seen the woman at the home before. And he says he’s seen too much trouble in the neighbourhood lately.

Martin Cox, heard the attack: “I’ll be definitely moving. The neighbourhood’s just getting too bad. I don’t feel safe anymore. Lately, in the last several months, the neighbourhood’s really gone down hill. A lot of drug use. A lot of violence.”

Cox says the fight could have been over a pen knife. The police forensics crew has been at the scene all night looking for evidence. Police say the attack was targeted and that there’s no threat to the public — a Staff Sergeant telling CHCH News investigators are sure they know who the female attacker is. But none of the suspects have been caught yet.
