Woman followed to her car shares interaction on Facebook

A Niagara woman’s Facebook post has gone viral, after she shared an alarming video of a man she says followed her to her car.

Nineteen-year-old Zoya Rajput was walking to her car after work on Sunday evening on Murray St. near Stanley Ave. in Niagara Falls. It’s a popular tourist location, and when she first saw the man walking behind her a block before she got to her car, she wasn’t too concerned.

“I figured there were a lot of tourists walking around and I didn’t want to make a big reaction.” says Rajput.

She continued to walk to the parking lot on Stanley Avenue. But as she approached her vehicle she knew something was wrong.

Rajput quickly unlocked the driver side door with her key, got in and locked the doors. She says by the time she looked over to the passenger side door, the man was pulling on the handle. Rajupt thinks he wanted to get in.

“I literally look at him and said, do I know you? Why are you trying to get into my car? And then I just had the instinct that I should probably take out my phone and take a picture,” she says.

Rajput recorded the interaction on her cell phone. In the video, the man is speaking to her, looking through her passenger side window and Rajput can be heard saying, “Ya you can hear me, I can hear you so don’t come near me again or I will report you.”

Rajput did report him the man and Niagara Regional police say they are investigating the incident, but have yet to identify the man. Police say Rajput did the right thing by running to a safe spot, but the interaction between the two was too long, and risky.

Rajput says she shared the pictures and videos to keep others safe.
