Winter travel advisory in effect for Niagara Region

There is a winter travel advisory in place for much of Niagara Tuesday morning as the region could see up to 8 cm of snow accumulation.
Environment Canada’s advisory stretches from Grimsby to Port Colborne, warning drivers of hazardous travel due to blowing snow and slippery conditions.
Northwest winds are expected to produce gusts of up to 60 km/h resulting in reduced visibility as snow blows across the roads.
Drivers are encouraged to adjust their driving for the road conditions by slowing down and watching for tail lights to ensure a safe following distance.

City staff in Niagara Falls are already out this morning shoveling stairs and walkways.
The city is responsible for cleaning about 33 per cent of side walks around Niagara Falls where there’s a high volume of car and pedestrian traffic near health care facilities.
There’s also a number of warming centres available for those looking to escape the cold, such as The Gale Centre, Niagara Falls History Museum and libraries.
