Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions.

Environment Canada says a Texas low is expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds to a large swath of southern Ontario.

Snow is predicted to begin late Friday afternoon or early evening and quickly become heavy at times.

The agency says there remains some uncertainty at this point to the placement of the heaviest snow. Winter storm or snowfall warnings may be issued as the event draws closer.

Visibility may be reduced at times in heavy snow and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
