Winter storm cancellations for Hamilton, Halton, Niagara regions

A winter storm issued for most of southern Ontario brought sleet and ice to the area.

Environment Canada says several regions, including the Golden Horseshoe, can expect to see up to 20mm of ice build-up from freezing rain.

Multiple schools and municipalities are releasing closure statements in the wake of the weather warnings.

This list is updated regularly. Please check back for updates on closures and cancellations.

Hamilton

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board: All schools and administrative buildings are closed. Buses are not running and all remote, e-learning, and in-person learning is cancelled. 

Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board: All schools and administrative buildings are closed.

McMaster University: The university is closed. McMaster Family Practice will be closed for any in-person appointments but phones lines will remain open.

Mohawk College: All schools and administrative buildings are closed.

Hamilton Public Library: All Hamilton Public Library locations are closed. This includes Bookmobile, Extended Access and Study Hall services.

All closed:

• Calvin Christian School, West 5th and Unity Campus
• Providence Christian School in Dundas
• VON Adult Day Centre
• De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre
• All YMCA Child Care Centres
• Dundas Community Services Office, Meals on Wheels and Assisted Transportation programs are cancelled.
• YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics programs are cancelled this morning. YMCAs remain open.
• VON Meals on Wheels and Transportation is cancelled today.

Halton Region

Halton District School Board: All Halton District schools and administrative centres are closed and transportation services are cancelled for zones one, two, and three.

Halton Catholic District School Board: All Halton Catholic District schools and administrative centres are closed and transportation services are cancelled for zones one, two, and three.

Niagara Region

District School Board of Niagara: All schools and administrative buildings are closed.

Niagara Catholic District School Board: All schools and administrative buildings are closed.

Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority: All service and administrative buildings are closed.

Pathstone Foundation: All Pathstone sites and in-person walk in clinic locations are closed. Team members will convert scheduled appointments to virtual ones for current clients.

All student transportation across Niagara is cancelled.

Meals On Wheels: The Meals On Wheels program in Thorold and St. Catharines is cancelled.

Beyond Montessori School: Beyond Montessori School in St. Catharines is closed.

Haldimand-Norfolk and Brant Counties

Grand Erie District School Board:  All schools are closed and all bus and transportation services are cancelled for zones one, two, and three.

Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board: All schools are closed and all bus and transportation services are cancelled for zones one, two, and three.

French Catholic School Board: All schools are closed and all bus and transportation services are cancelled for zones one, two, and three.

Wilfrid Laurier University: All university campuses and locations are closed.
